{"id":70312,"date":"2020-08-06T04:46:35","date_gmt":"2020-08-05T18:46:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=70312"},"modified":"2020-08-13T08:37:11","modified_gmt":"2020-08-12T22:37:11","slug":"siren-sounds-on-chfl-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/sport\/siren-sounds-on-chfl-season\/","title":{"rendered":"Siren sounds on CHFL season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/sport\/chfl-results-round-4\/\">SATURDAY\u2019S matches<\/a> in the shortened <a href=\"https:\/\/websites.sportstg.com\/assoc_page.cgi?assoc=6152\">Central Highland Football League<\/a> junior season will be the last for 2020.<\/p>\n<p>CHFL president Doug Hobson said organisers decided to cancel the remaining five rounds following the announcement that regional Victoria would be heading back to stage three lockdown from today.<\/p>\n<p>However, despite the call to end play, Hobson said he was \u201creally happy\u201d with what had been achieved.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of our trigger points was if schools closed down, let alone going back to stage three restrictions,\u201d he said. \u201cWe knew it was possibly going to come at some time but we\u2019re really happy that we got four weeks of football in.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were able to give a lot of players that chance to get out and play football which they love doing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re disappointed we weren\u2019t able to get right through the shortened season, but we always knew this was a possibility.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Over 330 players came in as part of the CHFL junior season under special COVID permits that allowed them to take the field for teams in the league. Those players will now revert to their original clubs.<\/p>\n<p>With 2020 a lost season, Hobson said the records would show the junior sides played four matches and the stats would stand, although there would be no medal or trophies handed out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis year will be marked down as one where we played four rounds of juniors,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI still have fixtures for this year, pristine and new, I\u2019m going to get one framed to remined me of the year we\u2019ve had. It was challenging, but hey, if we get through this year and make things happen, we can get through any year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Focus for the CHFL now turns to 2021 in the hopes there\u2019ll be some kind of comp in 10 months\u2019 time.<\/p>\n<p>Hobson said that the four weeks of junior play had helped the league get its processes around COVID-safe play set up and that would be important next year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow we put ourselves into recess and do some homework to see what we need to get happening for next season,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe teams that did get up and playing this year are really happy they did that\u2026 it gives them a bit of a taste of where they\u2019re going to be next year on protocols for cleaning and everything else.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SATURDAY\u2019S matches in the shortened Central Highland Football League junior season will be the last for 2020.
