SUPPORT is readily available for residents experiencing loneliness or social disconnection thanks to the Golden Plains Shire\u2019s collaboration with the Victorian Government and the Australian Red Cross.<\/p>\n
Golden Plains Shire Mayor Cr Owen Sharkey said assistance is now more accessible than ever for the Shire\u2019s isolated and vulnerable residents through the expanded coronavirus hotline.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhile necessary, the current stage three restrictions are certainly challenging for many of our residents who are experiencing loneliness or isolation while doing their part to help stop the spread of COVID-19,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cCouncil is really pleased to partner with the Victorian Government and the Australian Red Cross to make it as local and relevant as possible for any callers from the Golden Plains.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis hotline initiative will be a real benefit to those members of our community.\u201d<\/p>\n
The State Government\u2019s initiative targeting community activation and social isolation will expand the coronavirus hotline to further provide an option for people to access social, physical and emotional support from Australian Red Cross volunteers and the Shire\u2019s Community Connector.<\/p>\n
The Golden Plains Shire received $58,000 from the Victorian Government to expand existing local support networks including a group of representatives from community services and organisations who have been assigned to deliver the program.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf anyone experiencing loneliness or social disconnection due to COVID-19, whether that\u2019s from self-isolating while waiting on a test result or staying home due to your age or health condition, know that you can get support quickly over the phone by simply calling the hotline,\u201d Cr Sharkey said.<\/p>\n
