PROFESSIONAL and passionate photographer Aldona Kmie\u0107 recently founded an online school with the aim of empowering people to take better photos while in lockdown.<\/p>\n

Saturday Photography School offers a variety of lessons to suit different skill sets, which Kmie\u0107 said are currently delivered completely online.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring the pandemic, I noticed it was a difficult time for many and that people were spending a lot of time inside and online,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought why don\u2019t I create something for people to connect with online and get some lessons going.<\/p>\n

\u201cI set up the website and the classes to offer people the skills to take better photographs.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her webpage currently offers two types of classes, the first being a general photography course for beginners which runs over 10 weeks.<\/p>\n

The second option is for more intermediate photographers, who Kmie\u0107 said might just require some specific help and guidance.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the 10-week course, every week you learn the basics to allow you to be proficient with the camera and with techniques and it doesn\u2019t have to be a Saturday either,\u201d she said,<\/p>\n

\u201cHowever, if you already know a lot about photography and are struggling with specific things, because it can be confusing, the second option if the one for you.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese are digital photography lessons which are one on one over camera are specifically for people who need a more<\/p>\n

specialised and individualistic course.\u201d<\/p>\n

Formerly the operator of Ballarat Photo Walks, which were immersive photography classes taken around the city, Kmie\u0107 is glad to continue offering her expertise during this time even if it is just online.<\/p>\n

Although she looks forward to taking in person classes again someday, Kmie\u0107 said it\u2019s great for her and her students that she can put her passion into practice at this time.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m trying to connect my experience as a professional photographer and get the message out there that it takes constant learning,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cPhotography is an amazing way to battle mental illness, for me anyway and it\u2019s a great way to explore your emotions and connect with another person through visuals.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you take up a passion and learn something new, you\u2019re really giving something to yourself and treating yourself as a worthy person that needs attention, it\u2019s a way of rewarding yourself and be kind to yourself.\u201d<\/p>\n
