{"id":71141,"date":"2020-09-12T04:57:55","date_gmt":"2020-09-11T18:57:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=71141"},"modified":"2020-09-06T18:17:29","modified_gmt":"2020-09-06T08:17:29","slug":"jim-rinaldi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/jim-rinaldi\/","title":{"rendered":"Smaller projects rewarding for Rinaldi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A SOUTH ward councillor since 2015, Cr Jim Rinaldi hopes to sit another term with the City of Ballarat.<\/p>\n<p>For him, the next four years will need \u201cstrong and decisive leadership.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Having run his own business for over 27 years, Cr Rinaldi said he has experience and a \u201cplain common sense\u201d that will be valuable in decision making and representing residents, when it comes to rebooting the economy, and community, post COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to continue with that we\u2019ve achieved, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ballarat.vic.gov.au\/city\/about-us\/council-plan\">follow and deliver the council plan<\/a>,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI enjoy seeing projects coming together and being delivered, and it doesn\u2019t matter which ward someone lives in, if I can help them, I will.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI give a voice to those who think they may not have one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cr Rinaldi said high-profile developments, like Mars Stadium or the Ballarat Sports and Events Centre might often get the biggest spotlight, but it\u2019s smaller community initiatives that give him the most joy.<\/p>\n<p>As the father of four daughters, an accessibility improvement at Buninyong\u2019s De Soza Park, for example, has been one of Cr Rinaldi\u2019s passion projects.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA mother approached me who had three children; one of them living with a disability. All she wanted was for the playground to be accessible for her daughters, so the sisters could play together,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn doing that, we got the all-abilities Eagle Swing. It was something simple, but I had so much empathy for that family.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you go out there now, there are lots of children that play there. It\u2019s been really rewarding.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cr Rinaldi is keen to persevere with beautification and tree-planting in Sebastopol, Delacombe and Buninyong\u2019s streets, and ensuring sporting facilities continue to be inclusive for female and male athletes city-wide.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s still work to be done, but where some areas where neglected, now they\u2019re not,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe<a href=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/sebastopol-celebrates-library-upgrade\/\"> refurbishment of the Sebastopol Library<\/a> has been a great success, so has the reopening of the BMX track and upgrades to the ovals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Improving overall community safety and the bus system is key for Cr Rinaldi moving forward, as is the rejuvenation of Bakery Hill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s an interesting concept, and one of the ways to activate it will be to have more upstairs and inner-CBD living. It won\u2019t just be done with roadworks, although it may help.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>An independent, \u201centirely self-funded\u201d candidate, Cr Rinaldi said he\u2019s never been a member of any party.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no place for politics in local government.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Away from Town Hall, Cr Rinaldi has his own personal athletic project that he works on at 6am, four days a week.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s been training to complete his 13th consecutive Melbourne Marathon in October. Due to COVID-19, he\u2019ll run the equivalent distance throughout Ballarat.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do a lot of running along the Wallaby Track in Brown Hill, and all over town. Through Woowookarung Regional Park, along the Yarrowee River Trail to Sebastopol, and through Buninyong.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI give full credit to our council workers that look after these tracks. Even with rain, they\u2019re all magnificent, and <a href=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/mount-clear-block-holds-rail-trails-missing-link\/\">there\u2019s more to come with the Buninyong Railway Line project near Mount Clear College<\/a>,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou really appreciate what we have in Ballarat when you are out jogging or running around, getting to see the things you miss when you\u2019re driving.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A SOUTH ward councillor since 2015, Cr Jim Rinaldi hopes to sit another term with the City of Ballarat.
