{"id":72523,"date":"2020-11-06T04:53:33","date_gmt":"2020-11-05T18:53:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=72523"},"modified":"2020-11-06T07:39:31","modified_gmt":"2020-11-05T21:39:31","slug":"making-every-frog-count","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/making-every-frog-count\/","title":{"rendered":"Making every frog count"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NATIONWIDE citizen science project, FrogID, gets jumping this week.<\/p>\n<p>Now in its third year the weeklong event is run but the Australian Museum and calls on people to record frog calls and send them in for analysis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was expecting the bushfires to have wiped out many frog populations, so I\u2019ve been stunned by some of the positive signs I\u2019ve seen recently,\u201d said Dr Jodi Rowley curator of amphibian and reptile conservation biology at the Museum.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have so much more to understand about these amazing animals, but we can only do this with help from people across Australia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Over the last two events the program has identified nearly a quarter-of-a-million frog calls from just under 200 species.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGet outside, listen for frogs and send us their calls. It\u2019s simple to do and you\u2019ll be helping to save Australia\u2019s frogs,\u201d Dr Rowley said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need the help of people all around the nation to gather audio of frogs in city parks, suburban backyards, regional properties, remote locations, everywhere.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>FrogID runs from 6 to 16 November.
