AS part of the Victorian Government\u2019s initiative to install sunshades in regional schools and outdoor spaces, Buninyong Primary School pupils are set to have safer places to play away from UV rays.<\/p>\n
Member for Buninyong Michaela Settle joined Buninyong Primary\u2019s principal Bernie Conlan to welcome the $21,220 grant that will be utilised to install four new shade sails into a central pole.<\/p>\n
As the sail shade grants have been an ongoing program, Ms Settle said it has been incredibly important for schools all around the region and the country.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis grant means Buninyong Primary school children can still enjoy the outdoors while having the necessary shade to be protected from the sun,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWorking with a local company, Shades and Sails, is something we always like to support because now more than ever we need to support our locals.<\/p>\n
\u201cSkin cancer is one of the most preventable forms of cancer in Australia, it\u2019s important we give young Victorians the protection they need.\u201d<\/p>\n
The new shade sails will go in place of a large, old tree which formerly served as an outside area protected from the sun but was recently cut down.<\/p>\n
Mr Conlan said while the loss of the large Cyprus tree was devastating, the school community are excited to welcome a new and safer shaded area.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe tree was planted late in the 19th century and had provided shade and shelter for students, parents and community members over many years,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are delighted to be a recipient of this grant, it\u2019s going to make a massive difference to have some shade back into this space.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
