{"id":73026,"date":"2020-12-03T04:55:06","date_gmt":"2020-12-02T17:55:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=73026"},"modified":"2020-11-26T09:59:48","modified_gmt":"2020-11-25T22:59:48","slug":"sixteen-days-for-global-change","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/sixteen-days-for-global-change\/","title":{"rendered":"Sixteen days for global change"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>IN support of the United Nation\u2019s Sixteen Days of Activism to End Violence Against Women project, the Zonta Club of Ballarat are hosting a range of activities and information sessions.<\/p>\n<p>Running from 25 November to 10 December, the theme of the initiative for 2020 is, &#8220;Orange the World: Fund, Respond, Prevent, Collect\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Zonta Ballarat president Caroline Nolan said although COVID restrictions have made putting on physical events difficult, the team are happy with what they can offer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c16 Days of Activism is not just a Zonta thing, it\u2019s a global movement,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s lots of things happening over these 16 days and our organisation, with its objectives, obviously it\u2019s something we would like to be involved in.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s 16 days of raising consciousness and doing what we can to support, particularly in our community and internationally.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To kick off their involvement in the initiative, members walked around Lake Wendouree in bright orange t-shirts to celebrate the launch of Zonta\u2019s 16 Days of Activism.<\/p>\n<p>After the walk, Ms Nolan said the group also took part in the chalk stencilling \u201cRespect, Call it out\u201d campaign.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s great to be out and about and doing something in support of the campaign,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe shirts we are wearing are saying, Zonta says no to violence against women and gender inequality.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the remainder of the initiative, members of the Ballarat Zonta branch also planned to take part in online seminars, social media posting and charitable initiatives for a range of agencies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have broken it down into 16 topics each day, and each day we will be posting something on Facebook relating to that day,\u201d Ms Nolan said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a speaker coming to speak to us about child marriage, we have collections for various organisations over the coming weeks, a bit of a social media presence and work in conjunction with the Women\u2019s Health Grampians and Amanda Collins with the City of Ballarat<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are hoping that next year will be even bigger, we\u2019re hoping to do it every year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To learn more or get involved with the global 16 Days of Activism movement, visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unwomen.org\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>unwomen.org<\/strong><\/a>, or for Victorians visit, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.respectvictoria.vic.gov.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>respectvictoria.vic.gov.au<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>IN support of the United Nation\u2019s Sixteen Days of Activism to End Violence Against Women project, the Zonta Club of Ballarat are hosting a range of activities and information sessions.
