IN good sporting news, Ballarat\u2019s Sports Events Centre and Mars Minerdome are preparing to offer their facilities and kick-start the sporting season once again.<\/p>\n

Both the junior and senior basketball competitions started after 30 November, with the juniors playing for three weeks and the senior season running until Easter.<\/p>\n

Ballarat Basketball operations manager Mark Valentine said the staff at both sites are eager to get players back on the courts.<\/p>\n

\u201cMany senior basketball and netball teams are itching to get back at BSEC as they have been unable to play indoors since March,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cGiven they have been away from their favourite sport for so long senior basketballers have elected to have a short break over Christmas and get back into the regular routine from mid-January and will play a summer season through till Easter 2021.\u201d<\/p>\n

Teams were confirmed on Friday, 27 November and seniors had to submit club based team entries through their individual organisations.<\/p>\n

\u201cJunior basketballers and netballers had an all too short two week return to play in July so they know what to expect around the courts,\u201d Mr Valentine said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey too are excited to be back with their team mates playing games which will have no real competition bearing, as their season will finish just prior to Christmas.<\/p>\n

\u201cOver the break the change of age group will occur and a new season will commence in February.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Ballarat Sports and Events Centre will also be open and available for casual hoops on weekdays between 9am and 12pm or 1pm and 4pm.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s $5 per person to borrow the courts, no need to pre-book but a personal water bottle and basketball is essential.<\/p>\n
