THREE performers from Ballarat National Theatre\u2019s acting company have been recognised in the recent Victorian Drama League Monologue Competition.<\/p>\n
In the youth category, Amelia Pawsey and Jasper Magri were awarded, having entered self-produced video performances.<\/p>\n
Pawsey placed second for Forever On Hold<\/em> from When Mel Fell for Nell<\/em>, while Magri placed third for his take on You\u2019re A Good Man, Charlie Brown<\/em>.<\/p>\n Liana Skewes entered the adult drama category with a \u201ctragic, very human\u201d Blanche Dubois monologue from A Streetcar Named Desire<\/em>.<\/p>\n She won the Adult Drama Adjudicators\u2019 Award for character portrayal and was grateful to be acknowledged alongside two \u201cpassionate and professional young actors\u201d from BNT.<\/p>\n \u201cI didn\u2019t think I\u2019d have the capacity to learn the monologue this year, but it was the one thing I wanted to do,\u201d Skewes said.<\/p>\n \u201cI got it in at the last minute on the last day, and thought, at least it\u2019s in. To get the special award from the adjudicator especially for the characterisation was mind-blowing.\u201d<\/p>\n Skewes said many people haven\u2019t had the capacity to achieve their creative goals under the constraints of 2020, so the comp was a chance to shine the spotlight on those who \u201cthrew their hat in the ring\u201d in the face of challenge.<\/p>\n \u201cTo see people put something forward and then be recognised for that, that is something for Ballarat National Theatre to celebrate.\u201d<\/p>\n
