{"id":73210,"date":"2020-12-10T04:57:08","date_gmt":"2020-12-09T17:57:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=73210"},"modified":"2020-12-06T13:41:30","modified_gmt":"2020-12-06T02:41:30","slug":"dana-street-primary-school","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/dana-street-primary-school\/","title":{"rendered":"Grass to be greener at Dana Street"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BALLARAT\u2019S oldest State primary school, Dana Street, is receiving upgrades to their outdoor sports and play space, which is currently an open field of grass and asphalt.<\/p>\n<p>The State \u201cpriority project\u201d has received $500,000 and will see a futsal court, multi-use synthetic oval surface, creative play and outdoor learning spaces installed.<\/p>\n<p>Principal Natalie Toohey said the works are a big task and have been planned for a while, but they needed this funding support to make them happen.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_73212\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-73212\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-73212\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2020\/12\/DSC_0028-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-73212\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Eve and Pippa play on the footy and cricket pitch which currently is dusty in the warmer months and muddy in winter.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWe have great children, fantastic teachers and a really supportive community. We\u2019re in the centre of town, so it\u2019s a beacon for public education. This upgrade will make the school shine out,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s one of the oldest schools still operating in the state. It\u2019s important to preserve the history and live in the current century by upgrading these newer parts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re delighted. We\u2019re a really close-knit community so everyone will be extremely happy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Grade 6 Millie Taylor is excited for her younger siblings to make the most of the fresh sports surfaces.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_73213\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-73213\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-73213\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2020\/12\/DSC_0004-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-73213\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Principal, Natalie Toohey shows Member for Wendouree, Juliana Addison the Victorian School Building Authority\u2019s drawings for the outdoor space.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cMy sister absolutely loves running around with friends, but clothes get dusty and dirty, and dust gets in their eyes,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will be a great improvement to have a futsal area, so footy and soccer players can have their own space without their games getting muddled up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Member for Wendouree Juliana Addison said the space can be \u201ca dustbowl in summer and muddy in winter,\u201d but the State wants to ensure the limited inner-city playground is utilised to its best potential in coming years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis space is going to be able to be used throughout every term and every week of the school year,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe gates are open on the weekend too, so kids and families that might be living nearby with small backyards can come and use this community space.
