{"id":73300,"date":"2020-12-09T04:47:38","date_gmt":"2020-12-08T17:47:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=73300"},"modified":"2020-12-10T08:42:39","modified_gmt":"2020-12-09T21:42:39","slug":"cycling-junior-clinic-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/sport\/cycling-junior-clinic-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"Kids\u2019 clinic boosts Club and confidence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">WITH two sessions remaining, Sebastopol Cycling Club\u2019s free junior cycling clinics have been skilling-up riders and improving their comfort on two wheels.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Accredited BSCC coaches including Chris Liston and Damien Keirl have educated children between the ages of three and 14 about basic bike skills and cycling road safety on closed Victoria Park roads.<\/p>\n<p>They will deliver a session tonight, Wednesday, 9 December, and the last session next Wednesday, 16 December before relaunching the program in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>BSCC president Tim Canny said the series has been popular with 30 to 40 children each Wednesday evening and had attracted new families to the sport.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cParents are wanting to get kids out, active and doing stuff. Because there\u2019s not much organised sport at the moment, more people are eager to get involved with programs like this,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s brought 10 or 15 new families to the Club that I hadn\u2019t seen before, so it\u2019s an incredible response. The Club will benefit long-term from new bike riders and members.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut the number one thing we\u2019re really excited about, and most importantly, kids on bikes in the community will be more skilled and educated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The clinic includes skills drills, which have been advancing slightly each week, and the very popular \u201chot laps.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor the last 15 minutes the kids ride laps around our Vic Park criterium course, and our coaches record their times so it\u2019s all about beating your personal best,\u201d Mr Canny said. \u201cThe kids try and race against the clock, which is exciting for them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meet at Poplar Avenue to attend on Wednesday evening.
