Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Sturt Street is home to plenty of glittery stations including a giant bauble and shooting star, a Gingerbread House with its own Christmas window, and stars representing the constellation known to Ngarrandjeri people as Nunganari; a stingray.<\/p>\n<p>Local artists Emily Van Der Molen, Evelyn Meikle, Margie Balazic, Zlatko Balazic, Deborah Lee Klein and Steph Wallace have also been commissioned to tell <em>Our Stories<\/em> through 12 colourful, shining window displays.<\/p>\n<p>Van Der Molen is the creator of retro tram-themed Christmas windows, <em>Santa&#8217;s Showboat \u2013 1968<\/em> at Parent Place and <em>The Myer Christmas Tram \u2013 1967 <\/em>on Armstrong Street south.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy favourite window is Santa\u2019s Showboat; a tram dressed up as a paddle steamer, which I think is so very Ballarat, while being perfectly quirky,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_73419\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-73419\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-73419\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2020\/12\/DSC_0437-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-73419\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A close detail of Margie Balazic\u2019s installation in the window of Playing in the Attic, Sturt Street. Photo: EDWINA WILLIAMS<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Her process is an intricate one, painting, cutting and assembling shapes by hand at home to create vibrant and exciting festive scenes, before reassembling the work on-site.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI really love creating worlds and get completely drawn into the process. There were quite a few mornings spent making baubles and birds over breakfast,\u201d Van Der Molen said.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, she had work in windows on Lydiard Street.
