A DISC golf course at Victoria Park has been officially opened in time for the summer break, and it\u2019s free to use.<\/p>\n
Located on the north-eastern side of the park between Cedar Drive and Poplar Avenue, the course is made up of 18 holes, some with multiple pin locations.<\/p>\n
Disc golf is played and scored much like the traditional game, with each hole having set pars and Frisbees used instead of clubs and balls.<\/p>\n
While Ultimate Frisbee and disc golf are different sports, they are adjacent to each other and Patrick Thorpe from Ballarat Ultimate Frisbee checked out the new course on it\u2019s opening day.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve played a couple of rounds down in Geelong, but having a course here is huge,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s going to be something great for the whole city.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s a fair few of us in the club that are really excited for this. We normally train on a Saturday morning, so we\u2019re looking at coming up after to have a round.\u201d<\/p>\n
The course has been installed by the City of Ballarat at a cost of $50,000 and Cr Ben Taylor, who was at the opening, said the new facility was a long time coming.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is another sport where people can participate from all ages and abilities,\u201d he said. \u201cThis has been in the making for many years and finally we\u2019ve got this activation happening.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt adds another element to the amount of sports we have here in Vic Park.\u201d<\/p>\n
The first hole of the course, along with more information and layout map is located near the corner of Cedar Drive and Plane Avenue in Victoria Park.<\/p>\n
The information board contains a QR code that when scanned provides further details about disc golf and where you can hire Frisbees from the City of Ballarat. Borrowing of equipment is on hold for the Christmas New Year break but will return in early January.
