IN ADDITION to their support for the LGBTIQ+ community in Ballarat, Cafs are calling for creatives to submit their work to be included in the projection installation, Captain Moonlite Rides Again \u2013 Visual Stories of Ballarat Pride.<\/p>\n

With the project to be revealed in March, Cafs CEO Wendy Sturgess said the organisation recently received funding from the Victorian Government\u2019s Pride Events and Festivals Fund 2021 to run the installation.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re naming the installation after bushranger Andrew George Scott, aka Captain Moonlite, who spent time in the Ballarat region in the 1870s,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cCaptain Moonlite was said to have a same-sex partner, James Nesbitt, with whom he formed a gang after they were released from prison\u2026 and was arguably one of the first members of the local LGBTIQ+ community.\u201d<\/p>\n

Creative members and allies of the LGBTIQ+ community can submit pieces including images, video or other artistic forms that can be projected in images such as visual art, sculpture, dance, short film and poetry that celebrate pride and inclusion.<\/p>\n

The installation will be projected on the Market Street side of the Cafs building, with an official launch on 5 March to be broadcast live on Ballarat\u2019s LaNCE TV and streamed online.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a proud LGBTIQ+ ally, Cafs is keen to facilitate inclusive conversations and positive behaviour change across the community,\u201d Ms Sturgess said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe believe this project will do that while recognising and supporting the LGBTIQ+ community.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you are an artist or creative from the LGBTIQ+ community or an ally, we\u2019d love to hear from you.\u201d<\/p>\n
