RESIDENTS are being invited to contribute to the future of the land around the southern part of Ballarat Station.<\/p>\n

Known as the Ballarat Station Southside Master Plan, the project is being run as part of the Victorian Planning Authority\u2019s Fast Track Program.<\/p>\n

Community members involved will engage with the VPA and help shape the redevelopment of the train station\u2019s southern precinct.<\/p>\n

Alix Rhodes, VPA executive director for regional Victoria said the plan will encourage a \u201ctransformation\u201d of the space and make it a \u201cdestination.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt will also attract investment, jobs and new commercial opportunities into the city to assist regional Victoria\u2019s recovery from the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson said the VPA recognises Ballarat Station is a key part of the city\u2019s history. Preserving and celebrating the area\u2019s \u201cunique\u201d and important heritage is a high priority.<\/p>\n

It is also hoped any redevelopment proposals will outline ways to make moving around the CBD to other major locations, and towards the north, safer and easier.<\/p>\n

As part of the plan, some public areas could be redesigned to make them more inviting and comfortable, and ensure better accessibility and safety.<\/p>\n

Also involved in the project are City of Ballarat, VicTrack and other State Government departments.<\/p>\n
