{"id":74213,"date":"2021-02-09T04:55:13","date_gmt":"2021-02-08T17:55:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=74213"},"modified":"2021-02-02T12:13:54","modified_gmt":"2021-02-02T01:13:54","slug":"funky-sunday-is-in-session","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/funky-sunday-is-in-session\/","title":{"rendered":"Funky Sunday is in session"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BALLARAT\u2019S newest event, Funk\u2019N\u2019Fest, is set to make its debut later this month and it\u2019s being run by the same team behind the Beer Festival.<\/p>\n<p>Set for Zoo Drive on 21 February, the day after the beer fest, a variety of funk artists and collectives will be playing you through the Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been thinking for some time now about Sunday being a great day with all of the equipment sitting there, we should put on a music festival,\u201d said organiser Ric Dexter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t see a lot of funk, soul or RnB in Ballarat so I thought let\u2019s do it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re unsure of numbers because it\u2019s the first time we\u2019ve run it but excitement has started to build so who knows.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The line-up includes a range of Melbourne funk and soul sounds including Kylie Auldist, Mayfield, Lake Minnetonka, AZTX and Moreland City Soul Revue as well as Ballarat\u2019s own Butterfunked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cButterfunked is about a seven-piece band from Ballarat and they\u2019ve been playing in Melbourne quite regularly these days,\u201d Mr Dexter said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m fairly involved with the music scene in Melbourne so I approached the bands I knew would spin heads around with their amazing talents.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMusic will start about midday with experimental trio AZTX, then Butterfunked, Lake Minnetonka who are a big band sound, then Moreland City Soul Revue, Mayfield and finally Melbourne\u2019s queen of soul Kylie Auldist to wrap it up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With a selection of brewers and food vendors along with plenty of chairs, tables and shaded areas for relaxing on offer throughout the event, Mr Dexter said it\u2019s shaping up to be a very groovy day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA few of the brewers hanging around from the beer fest will be two locals; Dollar Bill and Red Duck, along with Blue Pyrenees Winery and two big Melbourne players; Hawkers and Colonial,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll also have a couple of the food vendors hanging around, so we\u2019ll have slow cooked meats, ice cream, coffee, The Forge and the music is fantastic, it\u2019s going to make you want to get up and dance no matter how old you are.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s best to buy tickets online because of the COVID rules and if you buy a ticket at the same time as a Beer Festival ticket, get $5 off.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For more information or to purchase a ticket, visit<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.com.au\/e\/ballarat-funknfest-tickets-133188722053\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> bit.ly\/3ox1Pnx<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BALLARAT\u2019S newest event, Funk\u2019N\u2019Fest, is set to make its debut later this month and it\u2019s being run by the same team behind the Beer Festival.
