{"id":74391,"date":"2021-02-13T05:00:11","date_gmt":"2021-02-12T18:00:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=74391"},"modified":"2021-02-09T12:42:37","modified_gmt":"2021-02-09T01:42:37","slug":"casual-take-on-fine-dining-eat-drink-west","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/casual-take-on-fine-dining-eat-drink-west\/","title":{"rendered":"Casual take on fine dining &#8211; Eat Drink West"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Outdoor fun at Main Road\u2019s Mr Jones<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>COMPLIMENTING their modern Asian set menu service, Mr Jones are joining in on Visit Ballarat\u2019s Summer of Fun campaign by offering casual nights of cocktails and skewers on their deck.<\/p>\n<p>Including a selection of grilled skewers, small plates packed with flavour along with cocktails, wines and beers, the nightly program is set to be served on the venue\u2019s front deck overlooking Main Road.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Jones\u2019 owner and head chef Damien Jones said patrons don\u2019t need to book for a space out the front but to instead come down,<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_74398\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-74398\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-74398\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2021\/02\/Skewers-on-the-Deck-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2021\/02\/Skewers-on-the-Deck-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2021\/02\/Skewers-on-the-Deck-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2021\/02\/Skewers-on-the-Deck-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2021\/02\/Skewers-on-the-Deck-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2021\/02\/Skewers-on-the-Deck-2048x1365.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2021\/02\/Skewers-on-the-Deck-272x182.jpg 272w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-74398\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A selection of items available for Mr Jones&#8217; Skewers on the Deck event.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>find a space, and have a casual glass of wine with a bite to eat.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were approached to do something for the Visit Ballarat Summer of Fun campaign and we have this beautiful decking which doesn\u2019t get used enough,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s nice to have people out here having a bit of food and a drink, but it\u2019s very casual compared to inside where we\u2019re still doing the set menu.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a good opportunity for people to come down who haven\u2019t been here before and it is beautiful here, the street is truly one of Ballarat\u2019s best streets.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In conjunction with the Skewers on Deck initiative, Mr Jones have also put together their very own sweet and tart Mo Jo cocktail as part of the City of Ballarat\u2019s Balmy Nights Cocktail Series.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe special cocktail we have going at the moment is a lychee mojito, a classic cocktail but our version of it,\u201d Jones said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s nice to offer small bite sized food and access to great wine and cocktails on our deck space.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Having completed round one of the food and drink event last weekend, Jones said it was great to see customers interacting with the venues offerings in a more casual way.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a nice way to eat, you get around four or five plates of different flavours, that\u2019s how I like to eat, rather than having a whole thing,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe usual banquet is a bit of a journey through a range of textures and flavours, the start is a range of shared entrees, then the last part is more bigger dishes such as curries and there\u2019s an option for dessert.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s about enjoying the space, the service and of course the food.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is more of my interpretation of modern Asian, and it has changed a bit the food has changed a lot since it was Catfish and I\u2019m very pleased with the direction it\u2019s going in, it\u2019s a bit lighter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s first in best dressed for Mr Jones\u2019 Skewers on the Deck and the program will be running from 5.30pm till late every Wednesday to Sunday until the weather permits.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Outdoor fun at Main Road\u2019s Mr Jones COMPLIMENTING their modern Asian set menu service, Mr Jones are joining in on Visit Ballarat\u2019s Summer of Fun campaign by offering casual nights of cocktails and skewers on their deck.
