A RURAL team with an inclusive family focus, Waubra Kangaroos Football Netball Club are inviting young people from across Ballarat to join their side.<\/p>\n
Ahead of the start of the Central Highlands Football Netball League season on Saturday, 17 April Waubra\u2019s junior football coordinator Matt Menhennet said playing spots are available for boys and girls in the under 12, under 15 and under 18 footy squads, and in the under 13 netball team.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf one child wants to play footy or netball, we will welcome them with open arms. If a couple of whole families decide they\u2019re interested and say, \u2018we\u2019re coming out,\u2019 that would be fantastic,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cComing out of last year, we\u2019re all about the community connection, and first and foremost, want the family feel across the club to reignite. Join us, volunteer, come and help in the kitchen, be and feel a part of our family.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have girls set to play in the under 12 and under 15 footy teams, and more are welcome because we know how capable they are.\u201d<\/p>\n
In 2019, Waubra\u2019s top men\u2019s team won the CHFL premiership. The club has been energised ever since, with its senior people leading and encouraging all players, from juniors to experienced athletes.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe playing and coaching team have been really inclusive of the community, and it\u2019s been fantastic to have them lead our whole club in a positive way, showing them the opportunities out there,\u201d Mr Menhennet said.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur aim is to try to maintain that inclusiveness, right from the seniors and through. We want to keep the methods of football consistent from seniors to the juniors, so when we\u2019re coaching, we\u2019re doing drills that the seniors do, and helping the kids connect with them.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve got quality coaches that are as good as any other club\u2019s.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Menhennet added that representing a side in the CHFNL brings the opportunity to have a big family day out, where children can play in a safe environment, and parents can catch up.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou can let you kids run around everywhere, everyone from the club is going to know them, and look after them.<\/p>\n
\u201cSome families come out for game days at 9am and they stay for the entire day. They get to play sport, watch sport, talk, kick back and relax,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Footy training is currently taking place at Ballarat High School so those wishing to try the club can easily access a session before the season begins. Netball training has commenced out at Waubra.<\/p>\n
