STUDENTS and staff from Mount Rowan Secondary College can look forward to active upgrades on campus as recipients of a government grant.<\/p>\n
The $30,000 funding from the Active Schools program will be used to purchase new fitness equipment and install a walking track which principal Seona Murnane said students can use during class and recreation times.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Active Schools grant will benefit the whole school community by making access to physical activity readily available for students and staff,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe envisage students using the track and fitness stations during recess and lunchtimes so there is another option for break times. Students often want to stay active at lunchtimes and the track will provide another space for this.\u201d<\/p>\n
As part of the grant program government secondary schools can also access resources to promote a more active school and member for Wendouree Juliana Addison said the material is important for strengthening the physical and mental health of young people.<\/p>\n
\u201cSport and recreation are central to our way of life. These grants will help make sure more young people can get the best start in life with an education linked to active and healthy lifestyles,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
