{"id":75996,"date":"2021-04-28T18:59:03","date_gmt":"2021-04-28T08:59:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=75996"},"modified":"2021-05-19T17:06:04","modified_gmt":"2021-05-19T07:06:04","slug":"mamma-mia-bloc-is-back","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/mamma-mia-bloc-is-back\/","title":{"rendered":"Mamma Mia\u2026 BLOC is back!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>IT\u2019S hard to know who is more excited in the lead up to the Ballarat Light Opera Company\u2019s production of <em>Mamma Mia<\/em>, cast or the community?<\/p>\n<p>Approaching two years in the making, the production will fill Her Majesty\u2019s Theatre with Abba\u2019s best hits and BLOC vice-president Carly Macdonald said the company is excited to return to the iconic venue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[The] people of BLOC really love that theatre and love the energy that we can gather from the audiences in that theatre,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s special for Ballarat to be opening Her Majesty\u2019s again and having really big audiences in and having a local production.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Auditions for the show began in May 2019 with curtains scheduled to open the following year, but the company were forced to halt production during COVID-19 lockdowns.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur cast continued to rehearse remotely where possible and then we waited for a little bit to see what would happen with COVID and what restrictions were happening,\u201d Ms Macdonald said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen as it got to about June in 2020 we thought \u2018hm this is probably bigger than we anticipated\u2019 and we had to really put a pause on what we were doing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The stage is now set however for May 12 and leading the cast is Aussie musical star Sarah Kate Landy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s bringing so much to the rest of the company, the little bits that they\u2019re picking up from her, it\u2019s such a fantastic experience for the rest of the cast to work with her,\u201d Ms Macdonald said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe just think particularly even more so now that Mamma Mia is a great production to be bringing to Ballarat because it is so fun and entertaining and the story about family and friendship is really true to everyone at the moment.
