We Are Ballarat celebrates all of us \u2013 the people who define our city \u2013 and aims to empower us to work towards the strengthening of Ballarat\u2019s social fabric.<\/strong><\/p>\n

IF there\u2019s one person in Ballarat who knows food, it\u2019s Tim Bone.<\/p>\n

So when the former MasterChef<\/em> contestant says the city is well on the way to becoming a foodie destination \u2013 well that\u2019s saying something.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat\u2019s so special about Ballarat is our vibrant food and drink scene,\u201d the We Are Ballarat ambassador said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOver the past couple of years, in terms of our food and drink industry, we\u2019ve come a long way. We\u2019re a foodie destination in our own right and it\u2019s booming. We\u2019re lucky we live here.\u201d<\/p>\n

The owner of much-loved local business Tim\u2019s Toasties, Mr Bone is known around the traps for his signature toasties \u2013 boasting fresh, local ingredients, and oozing in flavourful, indulgent cheese.<\/p>\n

According to Mr Bone, Ballarat is perfectly located in the midst of many incredible suppliers and producers, which explains the foodie revolution taking place in the city.<\/p>\n

\u201cI love to use as much local produce in my product as I can\u2026 That\u2019s what I\u2019m passionate about,\u201d Mr Bone said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re spoilt for choice around Ballarat.\u201d<\/p>\n

There\u2019s no denying the hospitality industry suffered significant losses during the COVID-19 pandemic, with restaurants and cafes having to close up shop and some shutting their doors indefinitely.<\/p>\n

But as Mr Bone said, the show of support from the Ballarat community was testament to its ability to rally together in times of need.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe really are part of a team here in Ballarat, especially in the hospitality industry, and I think the lockdowns and COVID-19 proved that,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re all banding together and showcasing how amazing all the restaurants and cafes are, and really trying to show people in Melbourne to come and visit.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s an amazing place to be. And if you\u2019re hungry or thirsty, you won\u2019t be disappointed.\u201d<\/p>\n

While the recovery process is sure to be long and arduous for those in the industry, Mr Bone has faith that his hometown will do all it can to continue supporting its community.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think some ways locals can support Ballarat\u2019s recovery is to get out there. Try and explore different cafes and restaurants that you might not necessarily have visited before. There\u2019s a<\/p>\n

lot popping up and this is such a great time for the hospitality industry and they need our support,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSupport local, go out, grab something to eat, grab something to drink.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re very close knit here and we like to look after each other. The support that I\u2019ve gotten since MasterChef has been amazing.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is my home. It\u2019s where I\u2019m passionate to live. It\u2019s where I started my business. It\u2019s where I want to raise a family. It\u2019s a great place to live.\u201d<\/p>\n

By rallying the community in a spirit of support and togetherness, and with the vision of recovery firm in our minds, we can propel our city forward. We are Ballarat. And we are all in this together.<\/p>\n
