A COVID-19 test result of an overseas returned traveller in Ballarat is currently being thoroughly investigated.<\/p>\n
The person presented to Ballarat Health Services last night, having completed hotel quarantine in another state. They are now at home being monitored, and the Grampians Public Health Unit are conducting contact tracing.<\/p>\n
A BHS spokesperson said, \u201cinitial investigations suggest that this may be an historic case,\u201d but the traveller, their close contacts, BHS staff, and hospital patients who have been near this person are self-isolating and being tested.<\/p>\n
Ballarat Health Services CEO Dale Fraser said the ongoing investigation is a reminder to the community not to become complacent with COVID-safe practices.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe pandemic is well from being over, and we need to remain vigilant and cautious,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a rapidly evolving situation, and the Ballarat community is reminded to help stop the spread of COVID-19 by following the restrictions put in place by the Victorian Government, and to visit the Ballarat Health Services website and the Department of Health website for current and accurate information.\u201d<\/p>\n
BHS and their emergency department remain safe spaces for people to visit. BHS staff have been compliant with COVID-safe procedures and the use of PPE.<\/p>\n
