THE State Government is looking to purchase land from the City of Ballarat to extend the play space at Invermay Primary School.<\/p>\n
The Invermay Tennis Club courts next to the school\u2019s campus are already being used by students, but member for Wendouree Juliana Addison said purchasing the land will mean kids get ongoing access to it.<\/p>\n
\u201cBy seeking to secure this parcel of land we are ensuring Invermay students have a place to play and be active while out on the playground,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe evidence is clear; active kids are happy, healthy and resilient kids, who are able to focus more in class. That\u2019s why investments such as this are so important.\u201d<\/p>\n
Invermay Primary School principal Justin Marshman said currently students do not have a hard play space to use during breaks and a future transformation of the tennis courts will benefit the school and wider communities.<\/p>\n
\u201cInvermay PS is 148 years young and whilst our kids love coming to school, one resource we haven\u2019t been able to provide is a safe, attractive, hardcourt play area,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe asphalt courts adjacent to our school, laid some 40 years ago, have long been deteriorating, remaining largely unused and un-serviced since original tenants Invermay Tennis Club went into recess.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe look forward to transforming the aged asphalt surface into a safe, attractive and inviting synthetic play space that meet the needs and capabilities of our students during the day, as well as community members outside of school hours.\u201d<\/p>\n
