A FESTIVAL of Women\u2019s Big Bash League matches will hit elite cricket back into the Eastern Oval.<\/p>\n
Melbourne Renegades general manager James Rosengarten said action is set for the weekend of 13 and 14 November.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Renegades will be here leading the charge, with the Melbourne Stars, Perth Scorchers and Sydney Thunder,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019ll be some huge rivalries and two games each day of amazing cricket, with a real festival atmosphere.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe can\u2019t wait to showcase amazing talent. The thought of inspiring girls, boys and that next generation of cricket is a really big part of that.\u201d<\/p>\n
Recently re-signed Renegades batter Jess Duffin – also an AFLW player for the North Melbourne Kangaroos – is looking forward to returning to the Eastern Oval.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Ballarat crowd and the country community always gets out and supports anyone that\u2019s down here,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cHopefully they all wear red. We love coming out here, and hopefully we can put on a good show.\u201d<\/p>\n
City of Ballarat mayor Cr Daniel Moloney said he\u2019s keen to \u201cpaint this town red\u201d while promoting girls\u2019 and women\u2019s participation in sport.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s a trend where boys are twice as likely to take part in sport in this city,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cOver several years, we\u2019ve been trying to change that, building better female facilities, and attracting some of the best female talent across all different sports, to show regional girls and women that they can compete at the top level.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s fantastic to see we\u2019ll have some of Australia\u2019s best female cricketing talent here. We\u2019re behind the Renegades when they\u2019re in town.\u201d<\/p>\n
Member for Wendouree Juliana Addison thanked Cricket Victoria, and the Renegades for \u201cchoosing Ballarat\u201d which has a \u201crich\u201d cricketing history.<\/p>\n
\u201cBefore lockdown I went to the Big Bash final at the MCG. I took my two daughters who were inspired by the elite athletes, their skill and talent,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
