Beauty<\/p>\n<p>Trentron Electrical<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1><strong>Best the business<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Meet those who have been able to survive, revive and thrive over the last 18 months<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>FINALISTS in the 2021 Federation Business School Commerce Ballarat Business Excellence Awards have been announced, and it\u2019s a wide and varied mix of the region\u2019s enterprises.<\/p>\n<p>The list includes some familiar names who have made it this far before, and new entrants in the final round for the first time.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_77944\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-77944\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-77944\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2021\/07\/A02I4922-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-77944\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Commerce Ballarat board chair Hayley Coates at the 2019 awards gala.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>But one thing\u2019s for sure, they have all embraced the theme of this year\u2019s awards &#8211; survive, revive and thrive.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fact that any of these businesses are still able to celebrate anything is a great success after the 18 months we\u2019ve had,\u201d said Hayley Coates, board chair of Commerce Ballarat.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith businesses comfortable putting themselves forward for these awards means that they have survived and thrived.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While the theme of this year\u2019s Business Excellence Awards have changed to suit the times, the dual purposes of celebrating the region\u2019s enterprises and facilitating an introspective look are still just as relevant.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s always important to look at the basics of your business and step back and look behind the scenes,\u201d Ms Coates said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe all get caught up doing our job and running our businesses, but a good business relies on strong foundation, and that\u2019s where these awards come in.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey help you go back at look at your foundation and look at where any gaps are and that\u2019s what enables these businesses to be able to thrive in the tough times.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One of those businesses doing okay in the current conditions are first time finalists Dollar Bill Brewing who are in for the Regional Development Australia Grampians Eat Drink West Award and Nevetts Lawyers Manufacturing Award.<\/p>\n<p>While top prizes aren\u2019t new to Dollar Bill, they won Champion Australian Beer at the 2021 Australian International Beer Awards recently, co-owner Ed Nollie\u2019s said the local nods were meaningful.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a great honour to be considered for our commercial viability,\u201d he said. \u201cWe honestly don\u2019t make a lot of money out of what we do, but we do it because we love what we do and the community we live in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With Dollar Bill finalists in two categories that represent the start and end point of the process for the companies products, Mr Nollie said the nods were a great pairing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cManufacturing-wise, we\u2019re low-tech but passionate about how we do it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Eat Drink West thing is magnificent as well as what we do is quite significantly tied to the place that we do it. We use wild fermentation and native yeast and bacteria. Our products really have that sense of place.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_77945\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-77945\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-77945\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2021\/07\/A02I5106-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-77945\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Chair of Regional Development Australia Grampians, Stuart Benjamin.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Chair of Regional Development Australia Grampians, who sponsor the Eat Drink West Award, Stuart Benjamin said his organisation\u2019s reasons for backing the category were simple.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the Grampians region our largest economic sector is agriculture, yet of everything we produce that leaves the farmgate only one per cent stays in the region and is value added,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe entire push of RDA in the agricultural sector is \u2018how do we grow that one per cent?\u2019 The whole idea of supporting the Eat Drink West program is to make sure that we\u2019re consuming what we produce locally.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Winners in the 2021 Federation Business School Commerce Ballarat Business Excellence Awards are set to be revealed on Thursday, 26 August.<\/p>\n<p>While the exact arrangements for the traditional gala are still fluid, Ms Coates said she was looking forward to the event, whatever form it might take.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBusiness owners have struggled so much in last almost 24 months,\u201d she said. \u201cThe ability to have the gala dinner, let off some steam, celebrate some successes and have something positive for a change would be balm that everyone needs.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>2021 FEDERATION BUSINESS SCHOOL COMMERCE BALLARAT BUSINESS EXCELLENCE AWARDS &#8211;
