It\u2019s just about offering an alternative to the mainstream and what\u2019s out there.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s about getting people together who love fun movies and they don\u2019t want to sit in a cinema, in the dark, in silence and watch films.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey want to have a drink, a chat, a laugh, they may want to dress up as someone from the film, we\u2019re going to have competitions and trivia and really celebrate the film as much as we can and have a bit of a different experience around it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The first Terribly Good Cinema screening is scheduled for this Saturday at the Ballarat Trades Hall with John Carpenter\u2019s <em>They Live<\/em>, and other planned films include Ate de Jong\u2019s <em>Drop Dead Fred<\/em>, John McPhail\u2019s <em>Anna and the Apocalypse<\/em> and John Greyson\u2019s <em>Zero Patience<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have this idea that films like that are guilty pleasures and I want to step outside of that and say \u2018hey, you don\u2019t have to feel guilty about loving this stuff because it\u2019s awesome and its okay to just want to escape and celebrate that\u2019. You don\u2019t have to do it behind closed doors,\u201d Ms Mann said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m a big action movie fan, particularly Steven Seagal and Jean-Claude Van Damme and all those guys from the 80s and 90s.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re nostalgic from a time when you\u2019re growing up, they\u2019re comforting in that they\u2019re fairly formulaic, they\u2019re not challenging at all and they have a sense of fun about them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey don\u2019t take themselves seriously, they\u2019ve got those one liners in them, they\u2019ve got iconic moments, they stand the test of time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ms Mann said likeminded lovers of cheesy cinema are welcome to make their own suggestions for future screenings via Terribly Good Cinema\u2019s Facebook page or Instagram.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe really want to be inclusive and if there is a film that people are desperate to see on the big screen, get in touch\u2026 because we want to make that happen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For more information or to book tickets to upcoming screenings, visit <strong>terriblygoodcinema.com.au<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ASK a movie buff what their favourite film is and you\u2019re likely to get an Oscar-winning title or foreign arthouse flick as your answer.
