WRISC Family Violence Support\u2019s recent pop-up op-shop raised thousands to boost the organisation\u2019s group programs.<\/p>\n
The organisation opened the temporary shop at 420 Sturt Street, selling quality pre-loved clothing to generate funds for their services supporting women and children who\u2019ve experienced family violence.<\/p>\n
Project lead Chloe Gyorosi said Just over $3100 was raised over four days.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe response was absolutely fantastic for our first go. The awareness and community support it raised was phenomenal,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was amazing how many people came in just wanting to know more about WRISC and what we do, which was what we really wanted, and lots of people were interested in donating again in the future.<\/p>\n
\u201cBeing our first op-shop, and only open for a short time, we had a fair bit of leftover clothing, so we\u2019re hoping to run it annually and be open for more than four days.\u201d<\/p>\n
With more than 10 volunteers, and a long list of back-ups, Ms Gyorosi said the pop-up \u201ccouldn\u2019t have gone better.\u201d<\/p>\n
All funds raised from the four days are being put into WRISC\u2019s facilitation of additional group supports.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve got the VAN GO program, Aboriginal program, and our outreach case managers, but we\u2019re really focussing on having those peer support groups,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe money will give us resources and help get people in to help facilitate those groups.<\/p>\n
\u201cAlso, during COVID and these snap lockdowns, being able to create connections for our women and children in creative ways is really important.\u201d<\/p>\n
