BALLARAT\u2019S entire public art collection of more than one hundred and twenty pieces will soon be viewable online.<\/p>\n
The collection database, hosted on the Victorian Collections website, will include artworks across a range of media, with some pieces already posted.<\/p>\n
Each listing contains photos of the artwork and information on its history, significance and the artist responsible, from contemporary pieces to older bronze statues.<\/p>\n
Temporary artworks in the City\u2019s public art collection will also be included on the database.<\/p>\n
Location information is also provided and can also be used to chart the position of artworks across the city and tour them in person.<\/p>\n
The online database went live just after regional Victoria was released from its sixth set of lockdown restrictions last week, and mayor Cr Daniel Moloney said it was an accessible way for people to appreciate the City\u2019s collection.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis online collection is a wonderful way for people to see our entire public art collection in one place, something we as a city are very proud of,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cPublic art is so important to a city as it tells the story of its people as well as providing beauty, thought, and interest to our already stunning outdoor spaces.\u201d<\/p>\n
The City\u2019s arts and culture team worked on the database for one year, with more listings to be added.<\/p>\n
