EIGHTY million dollars has been set aside for development opportunities in the social and affordable housing space in Ballarat.<\/p>\n
The new funding is part of the Victorian Government\u2019s $5.3 billion Big Housing Build program and is designed to turn vacant land into properties through public private partnerships.<\/p>\n
Member for Buninyong Michaela Settle said $1.25 billion funding is available across at least 18 regional local government areas, including $15 million for Golden Plains and $20 million for Moorabool shires.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m calling on local landowners and developers to put their hand up to help make a contribution towards the future of our region, create local jobs and put a roof over heads of those in our community who need it most,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis investment will build on recent announcements which includes 89 new homes for Ballarat and 29 in Bacchus Marsh and Darley, with construction starting this year.\u201d<\/p>\n
The funding is intended to be used for purchasing new homes, vacant land and house and land packages in residential areas close to shops, schools and public transport.<\/p>\n
Minister for housing Richard Wynne said the Big Housing Build could increase social housing across the state by 10 per cent with 12,000 new homes potentially being built.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs Victoria continues to grow, so does demand for social and affordable housing,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s why we\u2019re delivering more housing for Victorians in need, as well as low- and moderate-income households, while creating thousands of jobs,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
