THE sound of brass is once more filling the Creswick air.<\/p>\n
Creswick Brass Band is back together and rehearsing in person, currently hosted by the Creswick Senior Citizens, where musicians can spread out and play in the hall.<\/p>\n
Musical director Katrina Bird said the last 18 months have been challenging for the band\u2019s 60-plus members of all ages, who not only love practicing and performing, but being able to do those things as a team.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe band is a community. It has been really difficult not being able to catch up and rehearse,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt has been great to see each other again in person, catch up, and play this month. Our focus now is on getting back together with consistency.<\/p>\n
\u201cUnfortunately, we’re still restricted with numbers. We can’t have a full band in the one room yet, so we\u2019re moving towards that. Hopefully, in a few weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Creswick Brass Band community is split into two ensembles; the Jubilee D-grade band, and the C-grade band.<\/p>\n
They\u2019re working towards upcoming performances at the Creswick Market, and then throughout the Christmas period.<\/p>\n
President Sheena Johnson said the band was recently awarded a Stockland CARE Grant, which is covering the cost of new sheet music, which will include some festive songs.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe desperately needed new Christmas music. We\u2019ve had the same books for a very long time,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s lots of great new music out there, and playing good music is the heart of the band.<\/p>\n
