{"id":80819,"date":"2021-11-30T04:55:27","date_gmt":"2021-11-29T17:55:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=80819"},"modified":"2021-12-01T18:23:56","modified_gmt":"2021-12-01T07:23:56","slug":"gather-podcast-party","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/gather-podcast-party\/","title":{"rendered":"Ain\u2019t no party like a podcast party"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE first chapter of bi-monthly locally-produced bookish podcast <em>Gather<\/em> will be celebrated this month.<\/p>\n<p>Its producer Amy Tsilemanis will host the <em>Gather<\/em> Podcast Party in the Ballaarat Mechanics&#8217; Institute&#8217;s Humffray Room from 2pm to 4pm this Sunday, 5 December, in partnership with H Squared Studios\u2019 Rex Hardware.<\/p>\n<p>The Party will include \u201clive-in-the-room\u201d and live-streamed show championing the creative work of local people, just after the final episode of the season themed \u2018collecting\u2019 comes out on Friday, 3 December.<\/p>\n<p>Wadawurrung woman Deanne Gilson will perform a Welcome to Country, Sophie Livitsanis will act as concierge, and Shadow Feet, FLOC and deborahN will perform, alongside poets Sarah Hart and Sean M Whelan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe event celebrates the first season of <em>Gather<\/em>, consisting of eight episodes, exploring the various themes of booksellers, travel, song lines, fairytales, coming of age, and adaptation,\u201d Tsilemanis said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe party is a chance to experience the world of the podcast live, and spotlight&#8230;artists, along with work to improve accessibility.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe podcast season has featured approximately 25 interviewed guests, discussing their books, theatre, music and beyond. We\u2019ve featured seven independent bookshops or organisations, and had over 10 new works created across short fiction, poetry, film, music, and audio from people of diverse backgrounds, ages and practices.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tsilemanis\u2019 previous small business Minerva\u2019s Books &#8211; also turning five years old next month &#8211; became an online second-hand literature shop and creative media hub, Minerva\u2019s Books and Ideas, in late 2020.<\/p>\n<p>This is when she launched <em>Gather<\/em>, to explore various themes, engage curious writers and performing artists, and \u201cexplore the lives of books and the ideas they ignite and illuminate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A Creative Victoria grant helped Tsilemanis to consult Arts Access Victoria to ensure the podcast was accessible for everyone, and she worked with Ballarat Tech Studio on the show\u2019s web page.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis has involved providing alt text, and improved headings for those with low vision, and producing episode transcripts for the deaf and hard of hearing,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had the pleasure of working with deaf filmmaker and Auslan lecturer Ramas McRae as a featured guest on <em>Gather<\/em>, and produced a film in Auslan welcoming people to <em>Gather<\/em> on the website.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis film will be shown as part of the <em>Gather<\/em> Party, which will also have live Auslan interpretation throughout, and is a chance for people with various access needs to come together and celebrate creativity and connection after another difficult year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Film <em>Intimacy in Isolation<\/em> by Bronwyn Blaiklock, Erin McCuskey and Lily Paskas will be premiered on the day.<\/p>\n<p>Within the last year, <em>Gather<\/em> has captured listeners not only in Australia, but in North America, Europe, South America and Asia.<\/p>\n<p>Listen at <strong>gather.buzzsprout.com<\/strong>, or access a ticket to the party via <strong>trybooking.com\/BVIZX<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE first chapter of bi-monthly locally-produced bookish podcast Gather will be celebrated this month.
