{"id":80831,"date":"2021-11-26T04:57:54","date_gmt":"2021-11-25T17:57:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=80831"},"modified":"2021-11-23T15:23:02","modified_gmt":"2021-11-23T04:23:02","slug":"food-is-free-green-fest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/food-is-free-green-fest\/","title":{"rendered":"Grant powering Green Fest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FOOD is Free is set to support the youth-led Ballarat Action Climate Co-op to run their own series of large-scale community events from early 2022 called Green Fest.<\/p>\n<p>The organisation recently received a Foundation for Rural Regional Renewal ABC Heywire Youth Innovation Grant worth just under $10,000 to do so.<\/p>\n<p>Secretary Katja Fiedler manages Food is Free\u2019s youth portfolio and said the board is excited to empower BACC\u2019s 20 student members as they drive a Fest they\u2019ve envisioned and designed themselves.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGreen Fest will bring a large crowd in the community; all ages, all abilities, backgrounds and interests together for a day, at least, to come together and celebrate a common passion of enhancing environmental sustainability, healthy lifestyles, eating, and self-sufficiency,\u201d Ms Fiedler said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere will also be fun and free market stalls, a clothes and book swap, creative upcycling workshops, the promotion of volunteer opportunities, and performances from emerging artists.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_80834\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-80834\" style=\"width: 225px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-80834\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2021\/11\/BACC-Garden-Bed-Launch-at-FIF-Green-Space-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2021\/11\/BACC-Garden-Bed-Launch-at-FIF-Green-Space-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2021\/11\/BACC-Garden-Bed-Launch-at-FIF-Green-Space.jpg 720w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-80834\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">BACC launched their own garden bed at the Green Space.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cAs well as funding, Food is Free is providing the support, advice, the spaces, the networks, community connections and volunteer support to make Green Fest happen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A number of workshops will run every three months after the initial event, exploring topics like gardening in small spaces, and beeswax wraps, before an open-air film screening in December concludes the year of festivities.<\/p>\n<p>As BACC was founded two years ago and isn\u2019t incorporated, Food is Free partnered with them on the grant application as an auspice.<\/p>\n<p>BACC works to promote climate justice, in alignment with the School Strike for Climate movement, and unites with other grassroots sustainability groups to educate and activate the community, have a voice, and create positive change.<\/p>\n<p>Community-led not-for-profit Food Is Free was established seven years ago with the aim of addressing food waste, assisting people with food security, and providing environmental education.<\/p>\n<p>The organisation\u2019s Ripon Street Green Space, where the Green Fest will be held, is a purpose-built outdoor learning area with 30 garden beds.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FOOD is Free is set to support the youth-led Ballarat Action Climate Co-op to run their own series of large-scale community events from early 2022 called Green Fest.
