ROAD transport manufacturer, MaxiTRANS, has welcomed new recruits to its workforce through a partnership with disability employment service provider AXIS Employment.<\/p>\n
Catherine O\u2019Donnell is one of two new workers in the organisation and said she\u2019s been learning on the job.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m in the electrician, plumbing area where I hook up wiring to trailer lights and airbrakes,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
AXIS Employment\u2019s Brendan Thompson said Ms O\u2019Donnell was identified as a strong candidate to help fill MaxiTRANS\u2019 labour and skills shortage.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe openness of MaxiTRANS and the way they\u2019ve gone about lodging and being accepting of some of our clients\u2019 barriers to employment and wanting to give our guys and girls a chance, it\u2019s been pleasing from our side and we hope we can continue to work in this space,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe cater for people from their last year of school right through to retirement age with any barriers to employment, whether it\u2019s reading and writing through to mental health.\u201d<\/p>\n
While Ms O\u2019Donnell said the new role was \u201ca bit different\u201d to her previous work with cars, her supervisor Jason\u00a0Beckerleg said she was already excelling.<\/p>\n
\u201cCathy\u2019s fit really well into our team. She\u2019s kicking goals, I can say that,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
MaxiTRANS continuous improvement team leader in industrial engineering, Chris Liston, said Ms O\u2019Donnell was also joining a growing number of women in the company\u2019s 350-strong workforce.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s an increasing number of females in the system, that\u2019s apprentice painters, welders and a lot of labourer helpers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
