HERITAGE advocates rejoice, the Humffray Street North rail gates have been reinstalled after going through successful restoration.<\/p>\n
The non-functional gates were removed in July for restoration works and reinstalled on Sunday, after traffic at the level crossing was closed for most of the day.<\/p>\n
Member for Wendouree Juliana Addison said its fantastic to see the gates returned.<\/p>\n
“We know the historical importance of the heritage gates at the Humffray Street level crossing, and this restoration work will now ensure they can be enjoyed by generations to come,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
“Ballarat is the proud home to countless heritage pieces, so it is important we continue to protect and restore them to be admired for years to come.”<\/p>\n
The restoration project saw the gates reconstructed at Yea, treated in Benalla before returning to Yea and finally painted at Broadford.<\/p>\n
According to the State Government, 30 people worked on the project, including V\/Line staff and contractors.<\/p>\n
“We are pleased that we’ve been able to preserve the history of the Humffray Street gates,\u201d V\/Line chief executive officer Matt Carrick said.<\/p>\n
