COLOURFUL is the best way to describe Delacombe Primary School\u2019s recent fundraising effort.<\/p>\n
The event, known as a colour fun run, was aimed at funding the upcoming grade 6 graduation, and the Energy Breakthrough team – the school\u2019s pedal powered endurance challenge squad.<\/p>\n
As part of the event pupils ran a lap of the oval while being covered in dry dyes and paints.<\/p>\n
Just to make things more challenging for local washing machines, Sebastopol Fire Brigade was on hand to hose the students down and let the colours soak in.<\/p>\n
In the wash up, the colour run was so successful the school has been able to make an additional $1000 donation to the 3BA Christmas Appeal.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve been really surprised as to how much money this event\u2019s generated,\u201d said principal Scott Phillips.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen it did generate so many funds for the school we thought it was certainly worthwhile donating some of that to an organisation.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s been great to get it in the school calendar and something we\u2019ll continue to do.\u201d<\/p>\n
With the whole school community out on Doug Dean Reserve for the event – that\u2019s about 500 students, plus teaches and support staff, as well as family and friends – Mr Phillips said the colour run was as much about getting together as it was fundraising.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe haven\u2019t really been able to do much as a school this year, so the fact that we\u2019re able to do it now is fantastic,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cGiven the year we had, we had to postpone the event initially, but we\u2019ve been looking forward to today where we could still squeeze it in before the year is over.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Phillips was also keen to acknowledge the wider community\u2019s role in the success of the school\u2019s colour run.<\/p>\n
\u201cJust a big thanks to the Delacombe community and businesses in terms of getting behind this and making sure it was a great day, but more importantly a good fundraiser,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
