Local producers and retailers are banding together to spread the good word of supporting local.<\/p>\n<p>From clothing, to accessories, candles, health foods and other gift ideas, everything you need for the festive season is available right here in the Ballarat region.<\/p>\n<p>As we come to the end of a second year living in the coronavirus pandemic, shopping local is also a great way to show your appreciation for small businesses that have done it tough, with Commerce Ballarat\u2019s handy gift guide.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Share the cheer<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Kristine Macfarlane, owner and operator of homemade candle and boutique store Essential Candle Co, said her store is the ultimate space for shopping locally this year.<\/p>\n<p>She\u2019s collaborating with more than 25 businesses this Christmas, transforming the space into a \u201cBallarat-made stall\u201d to make gifting easier.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSomeone could just walk into the shop and want a candle and walk out supporting six or seven other local businesses,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Essential Candle Co is stocking everything from candles, jewellery, keyrings, jams, books, plants and more; all locally owned and available at its Sturt Street shopfront and Stockland Wendouree pop-up.<\/p>\n<p>But what Ms Macfarlane is most proud of this year is her raspberry drops candle, which is flying out the door.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve created the scent to depict the raspberry drop taste, we worked quite hard on that this year and it\u2019s just taken off, we\u2019re in talks currently with Sovereign Hill to work on a collaboration,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gifts and more<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Located on Creswick Road, Studio g.a.s Ballarat is a one-stop shop for fashion, footwear and gifts.<\/p>\n<p>Owner Vicki McGuigan, who took over the 15-year-old business 18 months ago, said people come from far and wide to visit the store.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe took over in between the first and second COVID waves and I think if it wasn\u2019t a well-established business with a good name, we may not have survived,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_81134\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-81134\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-81134\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2021\/12\/4e343e38-a7f1-47a1-b51d-08c36d2ad6ae-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2021\/12\/4e343e38-a7f1-47a1-b51d-08c36d2ad6ae-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2021\/12\/4e343e38-a7f1-47a1-b51d-08c36d2ad6ae.jpg 521w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-81134\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Festive season: Studio g.a.s Ballarat offers gifts, apparel and shoes as well as a fully licensed caf\u00e9.
