THE Ballarat Animal Shelter is seeking to ensure our furry friends aren\u2019t forgotten on Santa\u2019s nice list this year with the launch of their Christmas appeal.<\/p>\n
The organisation is asking for donations of food, toys, bedding and treats to help care for the more than 2000 animals it sees annually including dogs, cats, guinea pigs, rabbits, chickens and even turkeys and goats.<\/p>\n
City of Ballarat deputy mayor Cr Amy Johnson put her support behind the initiative and said it could make a positive difference for the shelter and other animal agencies.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe animal shelter does an incredible job with limited resources, so at this time of the year donations are especially welcome,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cMany of the animals at the shelter have been surrendered or abandoned, some are lost, and others are being cared for as their owners deal with issues associated with homelessness or family violence.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe donated goods will help support the valuable work the shelter undertakes on behalf of our community.<\/p>\n
\u201cImportantly, all donations are shared with local animal rescue agencies and local community organisations which assist people in need and their pets.\u201d<\/p>\n
Cr Johnson said Ballarat was a region of animal lovers, with about 14,000 dogs and 8000 cats registered with the City last year.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you can, please help us support the animals which will be spending Christmas at the shelter this year,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Donations can be dropped off to the shelter from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday at 5A Gillingham Place, Alfredton.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
