A COMMUNITY focused effort at St Columba\u2019s School in Soldiers Hill has resulted in some significant donations for good causes.<\/p>\n
Known as an educational research passion project, the activities involved the primary school students raising money for the Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute or the Celiac Australia Foundation.<\/p>\n
Pupil Lilly Clark said the students picked FECRI because some of affected by cancer.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe chose cancer, and I did it with my two cousins because our grandpa passed away from cancer,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe don\u2019t want other people to go through what our family went through. We want people to be able to meet their grandparents, because we weren\u2019t able to.\u201d<\/p>\n
Running over terms three and four the money was raised through a school dress up day.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou could either dress up in crazy fashion clothes, or as an animal, or someone who inspires you because people who help with cancer and donate to cancer research are inspirations,\u201d Lilly said.<\/p>\n
In the end the pupils were able to make two donations, one worth $395 to FECRI and another of $170 to the Celiac Foundation.<\/p>\n
Lilly said there were lots of positives from her, and her school-mates, experience.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s really good to work in a group and come together and help people, just because you can,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are more privileged than some other people, so we should always try to help people and make sure that they can have all the same opportunities that we can.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
