IT was a night of celebration at the Creswick Town Hall last Saturday for the launch of CresFest 2022.<\/p>\n
Musicians entertained a capacity audience who were eager to put the past two years behind them and look forward to a festival that truly celebrates what it means to live in a vibrant community.<\/p>\n
Judy Turner, convenor of CresFest to be held from 1 to 3 April nest year, is a self-proclaimed community music activist and an advocate for community participation and endeavour.<\/p>\n
She is keen to have local people involved in all aspects of the festival, from planning through to performing.<\/p>\n
A Welcome to Country was followed by Hepburn Shire mayor Cr Tim Drylie acknowledging all those involved in making sure that the community can once again enjoy itself through the arts and events like CresFest.<\/p>\n
Local group Swingalong Ukestra gave a memorable performance under the leadership of Jen Hawley, who has been teaching the group since July.<\/p>\n
Fiddle player Kat Mear, along with banjo player Craig Woodward, both with an international reputation, had the audience dancing in the isles with their Creole and bluegrass music.<\/p>\n
CresFest organisers were delighted that Saturday could take place and that The Ugly Uncles could join the launch.<\/p>\n
Led by Derek Guille, well-known for his mellifluous voice and his time on ABC Radio, the Ugly Uncles delighted the audience with fun, talent and humour with multiple instruments and much banter.<\/p>\n
