WENDOUREE West\u2019s young people are jumping joyfully on two wheels, following the opening of the Recreation Reserve\u2019s new pump track for bikes, scooters, and skaters.<\/p>\n
The 250-square-metre all-abilities track worth $195,000 has been partly designed by the Victorian Skateboarding Association in collaboration with local youth, and mostly funded by the State Government.<\/p>\n
Just metres from Yuille Park Community College, the track is already well-used daily. Member for Wendouree Juliana Addison said its popularity is proof of how needed this style of infrastructure is.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe cannot finish these projects fast enough. With community sport and recreation now back after a challenging year, this track is the perfect inspiration for BMXers and skaters to get back into healthy and active lifestyles,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI acknowledge the City of Ballarat for their $50,000 contribution and support in delivering the project.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe young, and the young at heart, now have a track and skate facilities that are the envy of the region.\u201d<\/p>\n
Home to the Forest Rangers Soccer Club, Wendouree West Recreation Reserve is receiving a broader $7 million redevelopment covered by a State Local Sports Grant.<\/p>\n
So far, new soccer pitches and upgrades to power are also completed, with a community hub, pavilion, floodlighting, men\u2019s and Re-Cranked sheds, a shelter, and a five-a-side soccer space still to come by the end of 2022.<\/p>\n
Forest Rangers secretary Marilyn Tyndall said the facility\u2019s evolution is attracting more people to their nurturing sporting Club.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s getting our name out there. We get people pulling up to have a look, and lots… didn\u2019t know the oval existed,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve been involved with the Club for 35 years, and it\u2019s a delight to come to soccer here. It\u2019s absolutely amazing, and a hidden gem.\u201d<\/p>\n
City of Ballarat mayor Cr Daniel Moloney said the track is not only providing a space for youth be active in a social space, but encouraging them to be a member of a growing community.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
