{"id":81460,"date":"2021-12-28T04:55:09","date_gmt":"2021-12-27T17:55:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=81460"},"modified":"2021-12-21T13:46:16","modified_gmt":"2021-12-21T02:46:16","slug":"photo-comp-winners-on-display","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/photo-comp-winners-on-display\/","title":{"rendered":"Photo comp winners on display"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WINNERS of Golden Plains\u2019 the Spring in the Shire photography competition were announced last week.<\/p>\n<p>The annual competition encourages local photographers and creative minds of any skill level to capture the best parts of the Golden Plains Shire.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s theme was \u2018what we share\u2019 and over 70 entries were received between Monday, 13 September and Sunday, 31 October.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe spectacular entries in this year\u2019s Spring in the Shire photography competition are a great showcase of the creative talent of residents of all ages and from locations across our Shire,\u201d mayor Cr Gavin Gamble said.<\/p>\n<p>Entries were judged on their impact, storytelling, subject matter and ability to stick to the theme.<\/p>\n<p>The major prize winner was Lyn Steele from Bannockburn for her photo titled <em>Wing Attack<\/em>, an aptly named and perfectly timed photo of three corellas atop a netball hoop.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_81461\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-81461\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-81461\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2021\/12\/Wing-Attack_Lyn-Steele-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-81461\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lyn Steele\u2019s photo Wing Attack.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It\u2019s the second time Steele has taken the top prize, having also won in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Barry Feldman from Geelong and Lisa Carpenter from Scarsdale were highly commended.<\/p>\n<p>Other award winners included Holly Draffin from Linton in the young adult category for her photo titled <em>Love.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Lucy Blersch from Inverleigh claimed the junior prize for her photo <em>Early morning fish on the Leigh River<\/em>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_81462\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-81462\" style=\"width: 230px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-81462\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2021\/12\/Love_Holly-Draffin-230x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"230\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2021\/12\/Love_Holly-Draffin-230x300.jpeg 230w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2021\/12\/Love_Holly-Draffin.jpeg 750w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 230px) 100vw, 230px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-81462\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Holly Draffin\u2019s photo Love.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Steele and Draffin received $300 each for their photos, while junior winner Blersch was awarded $200.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCongratulations to our three prize winners, Lyn, Holly and Lucy, whose photographs beautifully capture the competition theme of \u2018what we share\u2019,\u201d Cr Gamble said.<\/p>\n<p>Thirty entries have been selected to be displayed at the Bannockburn Cultural Centre until Monday, 31 January.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith so many wonderful, shortlisted entries on display, we hope that many residents take the opportunity to visit the exhibition during January,\u201d Cr Gamble said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_81463\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-81463\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-81463\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2021\/12\/Early-morning-fish-on-the-Leigh-River_Lucy-Blersch-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-81463\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lucy Blersch\u2019s Early morning fish on the Leigh River.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The exhibition is open 10am to 1pm on Mondays, 10am to 5pm on Tuesdays, 10am to 6pm on Wednesdays, 10am to 5pm on Thursdays and Fridays and 9am to 12pm on Saturdays.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition will be closed on public holidays including Christmas Day, New Year\u2019s Day and Australia Day.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WINNERS of Golden Plains\u2019 the Spring in the Shire photography competition were announced last week.
