LOCALS and visitors alike are invited to take an exclusive, behind-the-scenes peek at one of Ballarat\u2019s oldest and grandest buildings – its Town Hall.<\/p>\n

The guided tours operate twice a week from 2pm to 3pm, commencing at the Ballarat Information Centre and proceeding to level one after visitors are given a brief history of the building.<\/p>\n

The Town Hall\u2019s council chambers,\u202fMayor\u2019s Room, Trench Room\u202fand\u202fthe A Hall\u202fare all among\u202fthe numerous spaces open to\u202fvisitors who opt to join\u202fthe tours.<\/p>\n

City of Ballarat mayor Cr Daniel Moloney said the tours will give people the chance to experience what the Town Hall was like during the late 1860s, with many of the building\u2019s magnificent features retained, along with some of the original furniture.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a great chance to see one of Ballarat\u2019s most beautiful buildings up close and to really get an appreciation of the magnificent goldrush architecture and furnishings,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Originally built in\u202f1856 but\u202fburnt to the ground three years later, the classical revival-style Ballarat Town\u202fHall is one of a few \u201csymmetrical\u201d town\u202fhall buildings in Victoria. The current building was constructed according to the designs of three architects following an 1868 competition.<\/p>\n
