{"id":81585,"date":"2021-12-26T04:57:50","date_gmt":"2021-12-25T17:57:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=81585"},"modified":"2021-12-21T17:03:59","modified_gmt":"2021-12-21T06:03:59","slug":"sarah-landy-mamma-mia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/sarah-landy-mamma-mia\/","title":{"rendered":"Guild awards BLOC\u2019s dancing queen"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BLOC Music Theatre\u2019s 2021 staging of the ABBA jukebox musical <em>Mamma Mia!<\/em> was celebrated at the recent Music Theatre Guild of Victoria Awards.<\/p>\n<p>Sarah Kate Landy was awarded best female performer in a leading role for her portrayal of lead dancing queen, The Dynamos\u2019 Donna Sheridan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m really chuffed and appreciative to be acknowledged in this way,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou give your all to something that you\u2019re so passionate about, and to have someone say, \u2018it was a good performance, congratulations,\u2019 it really makes me feel proud and so pleased I did the show.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou never know how you come across to the audience, so to have someone who doesn\u2019t know me at all giving me an award, that really made me happy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Landy was no stranger to the role when she was given the opportunity to be part of the BLOC cast. Previously, she had worked as an understudy for Donna in a professional production.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter doing the professional show, sometimes I thought, I wish I\u2019d done or sung some parts differently.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo play just that one role for a run of shows with BLOC meant I could really sit in it, be comfortable in it, and not be as nervous,\u201d Landy said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve always loved the character and feel like I\u2019m very similar in a lot of ways. It\u2019s nice to play a character that\u2019s close to who you are because it comes across more naturally.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Moving to Ballarat last year and launching her singing school Ballarat Vocal Studio, Landy relished the chance to \u201cdive into the deep end\u201d with BLOC, immersing herself in the local arts scene, and meeting a network of likeminded creatives.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m so glad I did it. Everyone knows each other in this small industry and it\u2019s such a tight-knit community,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStraight away from this one show, I\u2019ve been introduced to singing teachers, directors, photographers&#8230; the whole community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBLOC is a supportive, happy company that lets us thrive, and I\u2019ve never known generosity like that until coming to Ballarat.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BLOC Music Theatre\u2019s 2021 staging of the ABBA jukebox musical Mamma Mia! was celebrated at the recent Music Theatre Guild of Victoria Awards.
