BALLARAT Sports Events Centre is no more, with a new name announced for the complex last week.<\/p>\n
Western Victoria\u2019s largest indoor sporting stadium will be known for the next five years as Selkirk Stadium, named after the local brick maker and long-time sponsor of Basketball Ballarat.<\/p>\n
Chair Ron Selkirk said he was pleased with the name change and his company\u2019s backing of the sporting site.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe new Selkirk Stadium is fantastic, it is great to be able to support the growth of such a wonderful facility, and the growth of Ballarat\u2019s sporting and entertainment precinct,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The brick manufacturer is a principal partner of the Ballarat Miners and was the naming rights sponsor of the elite women\u2019s team in the past.<\/p>\n
Selkirk managing director Simon Meadows said the business was also keen to build on its support of the local association.<\/p>\n
\u201cBallarat Basketball are an integral part of Ballarat and our sporting culture which Selkirk have been very pleased to support over the years, and it\u2019s fantastic to extend on our commitment to the community,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Work is ongoing on the latest phase of upgrades at the stadium and includes the new eight indoor community courts, three outdoor 3×3 basketball courts, and a 3000 seat show court.<\/p>\n
\u201cSelkirk Stadium, with stage two almost complete, will host over 500 basketball and netball community teams each week along with and our elite senior and junior programs,\u201d said Neville Ivey, CEO of Basketball Ballarat.<\/p>\n
