WORK is underway to upgrade the car park between Eastwood and Little Bridge Streets in the CBD.<\/p>\n
City of Ballarat mayor Cr Daniel Moloney said it was time for a change at the site, with the job valued at $1.5 million.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Eastwood Street car park has required a lot of maintenance over recent years, particularly patching up potholes, and it is long overdue for a makeover,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The project by Ballarat Excavation and Transport includes asphalt resurfacing and line marking at the car park.<\/p>\n
New tree plantings, traffic islands and a raised pedestrian crossings have also been set for the site, aimed at revitalising the shopping area and improving its access for people on foot.<\/p>\n
The car park will remain accessible for the duration of the project, expected to be between six and eight weeks long subject to weather conditions.<\/p>\n
Traffic management arrangements have also been put in place at the site, while the main asphalt works have been scheduled at night in an effort to minimise disruptions to users.<\/p>\n
A statement from the City of Ballarat reminded residents to take note of the changes to traffic flow in the area.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will work hard to ensure there is as little disruption as possible to both shoppers and traders during this period but I\u2019m sure everyone will be looking forward to a really positive outcome once the works are complete,\u201d Cr Moloney said.<\/p>\n
