WORK is again underway for Sturt Street\u2019s shared bicycle and pedestrian pathway with construction restarting on Monday for an expected six-month period.<\/p>\n
The $3.7 million project resumed between Dawson and Doveton streets and will follow into Grenville Street and into the Bridge Mall.<\/p>\n
City of Ballarat mayor Cr Daniel Moloney said the shared bike and pedestrian pathway will provide a route for people along the remaining 600 meters of Ballarat\u2019s main boulevard.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a great, safe space for cyclists and pedestrians to go down our beautiful main street from Pleasant Street to Grenville Street without having to constantly look out for cars or other motorised vehicles,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The development will include new pedestrian crossings to be synchronised with existing traffic intersections, as well as cut bluestone in accordance with the heritage streetscape.<\/p>\n
With the eastern section of Sturt Street looked after by the City of Ballarat and the western portion administered by the State Government, initial construction covered Pleasant Street to Dawson Street and was completed last year.<\/p>\n
It is expected that businesses, loading zones and properties will remain accessible through the course of construction.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
