{"id":82144,"date":"2022-02-03T04:58:32","date_gmt":"2022-02-02T17:58:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=82144"},"modified":"2022-02-03T10:18:55","modified_gmt":"2022-02-02T23:18:55","slug":"lunar-new-year-sovereign-hill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/lunar-new-year-sovereign-hill\/","title":{"rendered":"Good food, good luck this new year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>COLOUR, culture, cuisine, and celebration are all on the menu this weekend, as Sovereign Hill brightly rings in the Lunar New Year.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, 5, and Sunday, 6 February, the living museum and the Chinese Australian Cultural Society Ballarat will mark the new Year of the Tiger with parades including the traditional, iconic dancing lions, with music, activities, and lantern-lined streets.<\/p>\n<p>CEO Sara Quon said food is a particular focus of the festival this year, packed full of good new year luck.<\/p>\n<p>A range of dishes inspired by traditional Chinese migrant fare have been organised by Trudi Gray, the Peter Rowland Group\u2019s head chef based at Sovereign Hill.<\/p>\n<p>Gray\u2019s grandfather was originally from Hong Kong, and she has worked in Asia.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_82146\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-82146\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-82146\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2022\/02\/2022-01-25_12-17-13-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-82146\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Chinese Australian Cultural Society Ballarat deliver the annual Lunar New Year events in partnership with the outdoor museum.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThe ever-popular Hope Bakery has a Chinese Char Siu pie, which is a celebration of the mixing of different cultures, with pork, bok choy, mushrooms, and baby corn,\u201d Ms Quon said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have an LNY@Night event on Saturday evening with dumplings, roast pork buns, noodles, and classic sweet tarts, and a sit-down Lunar New Year Banquet in the New York Bakery.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re really using food to express lots of different cultural traditions, and we\u2019re really fortunate that Trudi has a deep cultural connection to Chinese culture. She\u2019s really relished designing these menus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>LNY@Night will be accessible to anyone with a day pass, while the Lunar New Year Banquet on Saturday evening is its own ticketed event at $59 for adults and $25 for children.<\/p>\n<p>The sit-down dinner will include starters and soup, meat and fish, rice, desserts, and Chinese teas.<\/p>\n<p>Sovereign Hill will be open until 9pm on Saturday, 5 January.
