THE intersection of Sturt and Drummond streets is getting an upgrade as part of the ongoing shared pathway build along the Sturt Street Gardens.<\/p>\n
The upgrade aims to improve safety conditions and add pedestrian-controlled traffic signals in the middle of the intersection to connect the two ends of the median\u2019s foot and bike path.<\/p>\n
Streetlights, as well as new line markings, road signs and kerbs will also be installed to further improve the intersection.<\/p>\n
Traffic will be slowed to 40kph, and lane closures will be in place for the majority of construction.<\/p>\n
The works are part of a $9.3 million initiative to improve traffic conditions for pedestrians and cyclists throughout Ballarat.<\/p>\n
Member for Wendouree, Juliana Addison, said the works will be vital for the city\u2019s expansion.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs Ballarat continues to grow, we\u2019re making sure that we\u2019re delivering the transport infrastructure the community needs,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re making the road network safer for everyone, whether you\u2019re in a car, on a bike or foot.<\/p>\n
\u201cDelivering these vital works at one of Ballarat\u2019s busiest intersections means better access to hospitals, health services, schools, public transport and local businesses in the area.\u201d<\/p>\n
