{"id":83447,"date":"2022-04-08T04:56:32","date_gmt":"2022-04-07T17:56:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=83447"},"modified":"2022-04-05T18:52:20","modified_gmt":"2022-04-05T07:52:20","slug":"top-class-maya-tolliday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/top-class-maya-tolliday\/","title":{"rendered":"Top acts back in the spotlight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>YOUNG Ballarat talent treaded the boards of the Arts Centre Melbourne\u2019s Playhouse last week.<\/p>\n<p>Damascus College student Megan O\u2019Beirne, and 2021 graduate Maya Tolliday, were selected to perform in the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority\u2019s <em>Top Class<\/em> drama and theatre studies showcase, spotlighting the state\u2019s top VCE performing arts students.<\/p>\n<p>Tolliday took to the stage with a seven-minute solo performance she developed during her year 12 studies last year, mainly playing the character of <em>Thunderbirds<\/em>\u2019 Alan Tracy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had to do so much research to know about the character, his background, and his passions so I could play him well, and because the <em>Thunderbirds<\/em> were puppets, I had to demonstrate my physicality to be a puppet,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat was really something different for me, and a challenge, but I was able to show my strong physical theatre skills, and my background in dance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Drama and performing has been, and remains, a passion and outlet for Tolliday. She relished the chance to step back on stage, now studying biomedical science.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was incredible. I was thinking to myself, this will probably be the one and only time I\u2019ll get to perform in this theatre. You just never know.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis time last year, I went and saw <em>Top Class<\/em>, and sitting in the audience I knew I wanted to be on that stage this year, so this is experience is something I am so extremely grateful to have been given,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo be back in my spotlight in a theatre with an audience was a really good feeling.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>YOUNG Ballarat talent treaded the boards of the Arts Centre Melbourne\u2019s Playhouse last week.
