{"id":83468,"date":"2022-04-08T04:57:56","date_gmt":"2022-04-07T17:57:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/?p=83468"},"modified":"2022-04-05T19:28:20","modified_gmt":"2022-04-05T08:28:20","slug":"youth-week-art-exhibition-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/youth-week-art-exhibition-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Talent and intrigue at youth art show"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>UP-and-coming young artists are presenting their work at Barkly Square within the National Youth Week Art Exhibition.<\/p>\n<p>Pieces by visual creatives of all levels and abilities between the ages of 12 and 25 are on show and for sale throughout the month, following an official opening last Monday evening.<\/p>\n<p>An initiative of The Y Ballarat, BGT and Ballarat Community Health, the exhibition\u2019s aim is to celebrate young people, their passions, and achievements.<\/p>\n<p>Ballarat Specialist School year 12 and Vocational Education and Training visual arts student Dennis Cossens was awarded a highly commended honour by Art Gallery of Ballarat\u2019s curator Kiri Smart for his piece, <em>My shadow<\/em>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_83470\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-83470\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-83470\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2022\/04\/IMG_8485-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-83470\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Summer Lewis\u2019 clay sculpture My dog Figgy.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI was immediately attracted to his work, it has really strong form, is extremely striking, and if it hadn\u2019t have already been sold, I would have whipped it up,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Cossens has an additional piece in the exhibition, <em>My demon<\/em>, which like <em>My shadow<\/em> has been created with ink and charcoal. He enjoys expressing himself through visual art.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love art, creating details, and using different shades and tones,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m excited for where my art can go in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Smart awarded the artistic achievement honour to Brodie Kamp for their \u201cintriguing\u201d submission.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt features a skilfully drafted dead bird in a Parliament House cage,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UP-and-coming young artists are presenting their work at Barkly Square within the National Youth Week Art Exhibition.
